11. Know where SAT fits into your university plan
Before preparing, check the current testing policy of each university you are considering. Some institutions may require scores, while others may be test-optional or use SAT results in different ways. Your target score should be based on the universities you actually want to apply to.
22. Take a digital diagnostic test
Start with a full-length practice test under realistic conditions. Your diagnostic result provides a baseline and helps identify whether Reading and Writing, Math, or a particular content area is limiting your overall score.
33. Break your score into skill areas
Do not treat a total SAT score as one problem. Identify whether you are losing points through algebra, grammar, vocabulary in context, data interpretation, geometry, reading comprehension or time management, and build your study plan around those specific weaknesses.
44. Build strong foundations before chasing speed
If a concept is weak, timed practice alone will not fix it. Strengthen the underlying grammar, reading or mathematical skill first, then gradually reduce the time you allow yourself as accuracy improves.
55. Learn how to handle adaptive modules
Because each SAT section uses two adaptive modules, your strategy should focus on consistency rather than trying to predict which route you will receive. Work accurately through Module 1, manage difficult questions carefully and continue giving full effort in Module 2 regardless of how difficult it feels.
66. Use the digital tools efficiently
Practise in the same digital environment you will use on test day. Become comfortable navigating between questions, flagging items for review and using the built-in tools efficiently so technology does not slow you down during the actual test.
7 7. Practise by question type
Once you know your weaknesses, complete focused sets of similar questions rather than constantly taking full tests. This makes it easier to recognise patterns, learn the correct method and stop repeating the same mistakes.
88. Move into timed full-length practice
As your skills improve, begin completing full digital practice tests under official-style conditions. This helps develop concentration, pacing and decision-making across more than two hours of testing.
99. Review your score before booking or retaking
Use recent practice results to decide whether you are ready. If your scores remain below your target, identify the exact areas that can still improve instead of simply repeating the same preparation routine.
