What you should know
PTE Academic is a computer-based English proficiency test used for international study and other approved purposes. It assesses your ability to communicate in English through Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening tasks completed in a digital test environment. 1. Set your target score
Start by checking the PTE score required by your university or intended pathway. Different institutions and programs may set different overall and minimum skill requirements, so your preparation should be built around the score you actually need.

PTE Reading requires both comprehension and careful decision-making. Build your ability to understand context, grammar and meaning quickly so you can answer accurately without spending too much time on a single question.

Strong PTE writing combines relevant content with clear structure, grammar, vocabulary and accurate spelling. Practise writing directly to the task instead of relying too heavily on memorised templates that may not fit the prompt.

8. Practise under test conditions
Once your skills improve, move into timed practice using realistic computer-based conditions. This helps you become comfortable with the pace of the exam, microphone use and the need to switch quickly between different task types.

After every mock test, look at why you lost marks. Identify whether problems came from misunderstanding the task, poor fluency, weak vocabulary, spelling errors or time pressure, then use that information to shape your next study session.
