Study destination

Canada

Build your Canada study plan from Nepal with a clear understanding of course selection, DLI requirements, admission, funding, PAL/TAL rules, study permits, work conditions and post-graduation eligibility.

What you should know

Canada offers Nepali students a wide range of university, college and postgraduate study options across provinces with very different academic, lifestyle and cost profiles. The Canadian study process, however, requires more careful course selection than simply finding an institution that offers admission. Your school must be a Designated Learning Institution where required, and students who hope to work after graduation should check whether their specific program is eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit before making a final decision. For students applying from Nepal, a strong Canada plan connects four things clearly: your previous education, your chosen program, your financial capacity and what you expect to gain academically and professionally from the qualification.

Plan with confidence

1

1. Choose a program that fits your future

Begin by selecting a program that connects naturally with your previous education and future goals. Look beyond the course title and understand what you will actually study, what skills you will gain, and whether the qualification provides meaningful academic or professional progression.

2

2. Verify the institution and program

Before applying, confirm that your institution is a Designated Learning Institution and review the status of the specific program you want to study. If post-graduation work opportunities matter to you, check PGWP eligibility at this stage rather than assuming every Canadian program qualifies.

3

3. Understand the admission criteria

Canadian institutions assess students differently depending on the program and study level. Review academic requirements, English-language expectations, prerequisite subjects, work experience requirements and any additional documents before submitting an application.

4

4. Secure your Letter of Acceptance

Once your application is approved, the institution will issue a Letter of Acceptance, commonly known as an LOA. Review the program name, campus, study dates, tuition details and conditions carefully because this document becomes an important part of your study permit application.

5

5. Confirm your PAL or TAL requirement

Depending on your program and applicant category, you may need a Provincial Attestation Letter or Territorial Attestation Letter. Some students are exempt, so confirm the requirement that applies to you before preparing the final immigration application.

6

6. Build a credible financial plan

Prepare a financial plan that covers tuition, living expenses, travel and other study-related costs. Your funding should be genuine, accessible and supported by documents that clearly explain where the money comes from and how your education will be financed.

7

7. Prepare your study permit file

Your study permit application should bring your academic, financial and personal information together clearly. Make sure your documents are complete, your chosen program makes sense for your background, and the information provided across the application remains consistent.

8

8. Understand your student responsibilities

Before travelling, understand the conditions attached to studying and working in Canada. Your ability to work depends on your eligibility and permit conditions, and you are expected to remain enrolled and make reasonable progress toward completing your program.

9

9. Plan for arrival and life in Canada

Once your study permit is approved, prepare for the practical side of moving from Nepal to Canada. Arrange accommodation, travel, insurance, initial expenses and your institution's orientation requirements so you can begin your studies with fewer uncertainties.
